How to Shoot Star Trails
I
n this tutorial we’ll leave the computer and head out into the wild. I’ll be explaining the processes I use to shoot star trails images. So what is a star trails image? A star trails image is created by setting a camera on a tripod and opening its shutter for at least an hour. The rotation of the Earth makes the stars appear to travel in circles, and how do you shoot it exactly? Well, that’s just what this tutorial is going to explain to us, so lets get out there!

First of all that was really a beautiful picture. Thank you very much for sharing the tutorial with us.
Very cool tut. Thanks for the detail instruction. The star trails are beautiful. I don’t have bulb on my camera, but I’ll still try to see what get when I get some time to try this.
Some people (even if they have bulb) will take like 100+ pictures and then “stack” them together into a star trail. It actually yields more stars and greater detail with no blur or noise. The only downside is it takes forever.
Thanks for that Tyler.
This was a really cool tutorial. I’m going to have to try this out!
