Porn-What’s God got to do with it?

Mt.-Rundle,-Banff-National-ParkI’ve been thinking about the topic of pornography and so I thought I’d do a write up on it. Although I don’t like to admit it, it’s something that’s killing the Church. Stats are that 99% of guys have looked at or have been addicted to pornography at sometime in their life. Not only that but a large percentage of marriages (I can’t remember the exact number) end up in ruins because of it. But it’s not something we like to talk about because it’s awkward and personal.

But showing love for someone is acting in their best interest, not doing what is comfortable for them but doing what will actually help them. It sometimes means saying the hard things or bringing up the taboo subjects.

My question to you is this, if there was some guy who called himself a “Christian” and just slept around with different women all the time would you consider him a true Christian? Would you say that he really knows and loves Jesus? Because Jesus said that even if we look at a woman lustfully we have committed adultery in our heart. I know we like to think it’s different because it’s private and nobody is getting hurt but in reality God considers it no different. I don’t care if it’s only once a week or once a month that you “slip up” it’s not okay. Grace is for when we make legitimate mistakes, not for when we willingly embrace things that we know are wrong.

The Bible tells us that in order to be saved we must repent and be baptized. Have you ever really turned from your sin? I’m not at all going to say who is saved or who is not (myself included), as that is only for God to decide. But if you’re a Christian living in sin there are either two options, you’ve never repented or God is in the process of bringing you to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). The freedom that the Bible talks about is REAL, I promise. I’ve done stupid things in my life and I’ve been in things that I never thought I’d overcome. But what I really needed was a wake up call, someone who actually took God serious enough to ask the hard questions and talk the hard talks.

I say this because we need to become the men that God wants us to be. We need to have the strength and courage to stand up to injustice, we need to have the wisdom and understanding so that when we end up in a relationship we don’t mess up someone else’s life by our actions.

So where do you start? You’ve got to get things figured out with God, that’s the only way out. Make more time for prayer and the Word, maybe you need to talk to a pastor or a close friend, get someone who can keep you accountable.  I don’t care who you are or what you’ve done, there is forgiveness and freedom. I know that the hardest step is finally talking to someone but I promise you that freedom is totally worth it.

“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

    Hello Brandon,

thanks so much for this great words.
I have a problem with porn and often when it happends, or better after it, to comfort me I say to myself: “No problem, god will forgive me!”.

    But like you told:

“Grace is for when we make legitimate mistakes, not for when we willingly embrace things that we know are wrong.”

So thanks, these hard words really shocked me but also help me.
    Thank you.

    1 Peter 5:9

Resist him (satan) , standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
