Amazing Love

The Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ is truly the wonder of all wonders. It seems that the more we know our God the more we realize there is so much more we don’t know. Yesterday as I moved to the back of the streetcar I smelled this terribly disgusting smell of someone who really needed to take a shower. The smell was so strong almost all the streetcar smelled bad except the very front of it.

I immediately moved back to the front and sat there, but even there the smell was so overwhelming I was considering getting off of the streetcar, that’s when I realized how terribly disgusting I—a sinful person—must be to our Holy God. I mean, the difference between two human beings is finite no matter how much of a physical cleaning one of them needs. But the huge gap between a completely vile creature and his completely Holy and perfect God is infinite.

So today as I was praying (and still have the awareness from yesterday of the huge gap between God’s holiness and my sinfulness) and asking for God’s intervention in things that seemed impossible to me I realized how trivial my requests were to God! As I remembered the Cross I told God, “As wondrous and miraculous the answer to those prayers may seem, it is actually nothing compared to the wonder and miracle of the Cross.” The Bible says in Romans 8:32:

“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32

I think one of the miracles of the Cross is that God sent His Son to die for us without us even asking for it! In His goodness, love, grace, and wisdom He saw our need for salvation and acted upon this need. How much more will He act on less important needs in our lives?

Speaking about the Cross I was watching a documentary about crucifixion a couple of weeks ago and the one sentence that stuck in my mind was, “There is no such a thing as a comfortable posture on the cross…”

Amazing Love

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken,
I’m accepted, You were condemned.
I am alive and well, Your spirit is within me,
Because You died and rose again.
(Repeat x2)

Amazing love,
How can it be
That You, my King, would die for me?
Amazing love,
I know it’s true.
It’s my joy to honour You,
In all I do, I honour You.

I’m forgiven because You were forsaken,
I’m accepted, You were condemned.
I am alive and well, Your spirit is within me,
Because You died and rose again.

You are my King
Jesus, You are my King

  • Awesome and very insightful. We can never understand the wonders of His amazing love, until we understand the depths He had to reach to grab hold of us!
