A LITTLE PERSPECTIVE WALLPAPER

A Little Perspective Wallpaper. One of my first elective classes in college was Psychology 101, on the first day of class, the teacher came in and introduced himself and started an introductory speech that I found had nothing to do with the topic of psychology.

He was explaining that religion on a whole, has got it all wrong and that religion teaches that they have the answer to man’s problems; he went on to say that the Bible in particular is just a book of myths and fables and we should not place our trust in it. He then went on to say that the Bible has many errors! Example, the Bible teaches that the world is flat!! Obviously I was very shocked that he was saying these things to the students. The teacher seemed very uninformed and had a lot of prejudice; he obviously did not study history. Historians, even the ones who do not particularly believe in God, treats the Bible as one of the most accurate historical documents that human beings have, they may not believe in the miracles found in the Bible, but they agree that something happened that they cannot explain, this includes the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Bible is also viewed as one of the most literary writings, surpassing Shakespeare and all others by leaps and bound.

When the teacher said that the Bible teaches that the world is flat, I said to myself…”I never heard that before? in fact, I I had never read that before in the Bible?” I went home and started searching for the scripture verse that said the world is flat, I could not find it anywhere, I even searched in different translations and still I could not find it? What I did find is in Isaiah 40:22, it described the earth as a circle (sphere), closer to what we now know as a globe. Although the Bible was not focusing on describing to us the shape of the earth, it sure did not call the earth flat.

As I researched further, it seemed that the teacher was indeed misinformed in this area of History too, because the Greeks in 4th century BC knew the world was a spherical shape as seen in some of their maps and writings. Recent scholars has argued that, with few exceptions, no educated person in the history of Western Civilization from the third century B.C. onward, believed that the earth was flat; rather, the prevailing view was of a spherical earth. The idea of a flat earth was merely a myth that started spreading in the 19th century from popular writings and may have been around before, but was not the popular view.

The Book we studied in the class was: ‘Looking Out For #1

“Looking out for Number One is the conscious, rational effort to spend as much time as possible doing those things which bring you the greatest amount of pleasure and less time on those which cause pain.”

If Jesus studied and lived by this book, we would not have saving grace. Isaiah ask us some serious questions, to give us a little perspective on which we are compared to God.

“Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.” Isaiah 40:21-22

We are nothing compared to God. When man first stepped out of the atmosphere, went into space and looked back down on the earth, we got a little perspective from Gods point of view, we were so small we disappeared.

“..what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” Psalm 8:4

There are things that God made that are greater than us and even the things that are smaller than us are so complex we can’t figure them out entirely; when man first discovered the cell, he thought wow!, we found the smallest thing ever!, then now we found out that the cell has smaller parts and is more complex than the city of New York!! We then found out about the atom which is way smaller than a cell!

The God we serve is a Powerful and Holy God but he has a special place for you and me, we are His creation and He seeks a personal relationship with us. He loves us so much that even after we messed up, He sent His Son to die and suffer on a cross for our sins.

Always amazing to see how science proves the existence of God yet, it seem like a mind block for some to believe. Blessed are those that believe and yet, have not seen. That’s why I don’t believe in the phrase “Seeing is Believing” I think in this case, the Holy Spirit has much to declare about the matter.

And there are also subatomic particles like quarks. Then on the other extreme, the universe is so vast that it is incomprehensible. God made the largest and the smallest thing with great beauty and flawless design. The deeper we delve into the microscopic world and the father we travel into space via the telescope, the more we find that we do not know or understand.

The more we see, the more we realize how looking out for number one is vanity, a pursuit of emptiness. But making Christ the center of our lives and making Him number one gives our lives significance beyond measure.

    Blessings, Kathie Luther

Best space scenery of the earth I’ve seen for a long time. Thanks for the perspective you have in your comments also, an eye opener.
